smell from drains

Hi anybody help my mate has recently had a new toilet fitted and now there is the strong smell of the drains in the bathroom every thing is boxed in and ive looked for and cannot find the soil pipe inside or out I notice that the overflow pipes are still there but not connected but would this account for so much smell

If the oveflow pipes go into the soil stack, yes! Tried corks?

yes I,ll try that I can,t see where the overflow goes as everything is boxed in even the soil pipe there is no attic so I can,t see anything so am looking for ideas before we start ripping everything out.
