I have had a new bathroom suite fitted and the toilet has a concealed cistern however it doesn't always clear the toilet when flushed and there is often a smell of drains in the bathroom. The installers cannot find a problem with the fitting. The smell comes from the toilet not the joint on the soil pipe. Can anyone help.

Is the main soil stack outside vented? May be a blockage at the top, eg birds nest? If so "air" could be making it back into the room past the water, when you flush.
Check the cistern water is at the right level, probably done. It might be possible to raise the cistern a bit to help clear the pan.

Some pans, even expensive ones, are just plain bad designs and always give the problems you have.

Tina. Smells are difficult to trace.

So try this:

Mix up about 50% Fairy Liquid with water and slop it on the soil pipe/ pan joint. You are looking for bubbles forming (like farting in the bath).

If none are visible then whip up a load of foam and stick some in the sink and some in the bath (where it drains) Flush the toilet again. If the bubbles move you may have a problem with one of the traps (sink or bath).
