Smelly Washing Machine

Hi..Looking for some help or ideas please.. the daughter has just replaced her faulty washing machine and now has a smelly.kitchen.. she has checked that the waste pipe is not blocked and thinks she jas connected it back up lile the old one.. the smell.seems to be at floor level she tells me.. Any ideas please from the image attached..? Thanks in advance..

The grey hose on the left is fitted over the white waste pipe, so smells or even liquid might escape. The hose should go inside the white pipe (or replace with a pipe that allows this). Also the grey pipe should have a loop in it to prevent siphonage, which might allow drain smells in

Brilliant thanks for that.. the grey hose on the left is from the dishwasher and has to been touched..the dark grey hose comimg from the right is the new one.. it goes over the top.of the cupboard.. how should this look?what shoukd the loop look like? Thanks again..

It should loop up to the height of the underside of the worktop. Fix it with a bit of string or a cable tie. A cup hook is useful.

Or you can make a hole in the side of the unit facing the machine, right at the top, to feed the hose through.

When the top of the hose is above the level of water in the sink, dirty water is unlikely to run down it.

To clean out the washing machine and pipe, put a cupful of washing soda (not baking soda or caustic soda) in the machine and run a hot hot hot "white cottons" wash cycle with no powder or liquid. It will foam up as it also dissolves soap sludge or residue out of the machine.
