The ceiling has been coated with polytex. Is there a roller applied solution to produce a flat (or flatter !) look without having to skim over? Thanks.

Not to my knowledge. though can you send a link where polytex is at ? Cos aint u sure your refering to polycell smoothover !

polycell smoothover (according to tub) is applied with a blade. This is what I am trying to avoid ! . Roller is easier IMO. Thanks for response.

You have really got your work cut out caulking a ceiling that has polytex over it..evil stuff...pure evil

That smooth over stuff is expensive and has been a massive flop for polycell...they started punting it in the trade centres about two an half years ago at 30 quid a pop....expensive stuff..now its down to about 20 quid and they are doing 3 for 2.

Its a difficult job for the DIYer...come to think of it its a difficult job for a painter too!

Before you start give the ceiling a 50/50 coat of PVA and use a wide plastic caulking tool...bare in mind it still wont be good enough to take a coat of paint..it isnt a one coat miracle cure beleive me..you will probably need to paper the ceiling after with a blown vinyl..

Id seriously consider getting a plasterer in..

Thanks Zampa(again!). Plasterer seems to be the best approach.

The pleasures all......yours!..lol

If you dead serious about the ceiling and want a good finish the plasterer has to be the answer..I really think you'l get disheartened and frustrated 'D' ing it yourself.

If it was my place..I wouldnt attempt it and im a so called 'pro'
