Hi folks,

Wonder if any of you can tell me what this is (pic attached).
Ive noticed a small leak in this pipe attached to my boiler which is being caught by the bigger 'bucket' looking attachment at the bottom. Ive had a plumber look at it and he's said the part needs replaced which will cost £100 plus labour. I wanted to find out a bit more about it. Ive no idea about plumbing but looks to me like it may be supposed to catch drips. I may be way off though.

Appreciate any help :-)

More middle class anxiety about the working classes!!!

It is indeed designed to catch drips from two spring loaded safety valves.. One of these needs replacing and the expansion vessel may need depressurising..

In all probability the expansion vessel only needs repressurising.

That should be checked BEFORE replacing.

But its a bigger and more expensive job to replace!

The black think is to show when a valve is leaking and not to "catch" anything.

Think you may have meant re-pressurising there Alec
