Hi

On the ground floor of my house the floor is suspended with about 3 ft of space underneath it.

I'm having part of the ground floor extended and was wondering whether I should continue the suspended floor or have a solid one.

What are the advantages/disadvantages of each one?

Many thanks :)

A solid floor is generally warmer because the concrete acts as a heat sink, being above the insulation board.
What you have to watch is that you maintain ventilation to the existing sub-floor space by ducting under the concrete floor to air bricks in the extension.

Thanks Tony. Yes, my suspended floor (some tiled, some wood) is freezing cold in winter, even with the heating on full blast you can't be barefoot in winter.

So much so that when we do the building work I'm having this suspended floor insulated from the bottom (assuming the builder can fit into the space underneath!

The floor as specified on the BR drawings is solid but I was just wondering whether I should think about a suspended floor. In other words is there any advantage to having a suspended floor?

Many thanks
