I am about to have my steps made more sturdy and then dressed up with enginnered wood to match my new floor.

I was thinking about cutting a hold in the side of the step and filling it with some sort of accoustic insulation roll.
Is this a good idea?
Will this help?
Do you have a better idea?

Thanks for your help!

Unless they are exceptionally noisy the addition of additional treads and risers will damp out a lot of noise. I put oak treads & risers over the top of our old existing timber stairs (glued and nailed). They are now quieter and don't squeak either. Obviously being a hardwood stair it is louder than carpeted, and you don't want anyone in heels using them.
