Hi

I've had a quote for repointing from a comapny called South Downs Brickwork in West Sussex and wondered if anyone had used them before and how they were for price/quality etc?

You need 2 other quotes and do some research on the type of pointing you have - due to the age of the house and then ask questions of the contractor .- Fair play to the guy for getting a web advert done - but it`s still Caveat Emptor . If you go with this firm and they are good - let us all know.

They've quoted me £1920 for 48m2 which includes raking out and a waterproof treatment afterwards, it doesn't sound to bad to me but I'm no expert.

Waterproof Treatment ...It kind of sounds like a run-of - the mill re point with a standard mortar using a gun and then rubbing the joints . I have it here on the house I bought . Personally I would rather have seen a re-point in Lime mortar here, as per original, but it`s only a side wall and hidden. Havent got a clue what it costs per meter square.

I think I got a quote for £20/sqm for re-pointing (no details) in Hove. I don't think scaffolding was included. If it is built with lime mortar, I'd go for weathered pointing with a suitable lime mortar.

Sorry I've dug out the quote but £20 was for removing plaster. They also quoted £40 for repointing.

Pardon me for being a bit cynical, but i think this is more about a plug for the company, than anything else. When a newbee from Sussex, comes on here, and plugs a company from,,,,, yep,,, Sussex,, it gonna look that way.

Thanks for your replies, so £40 per metre sounds about right then.

As for the company plug comment - I'm hardly going to get a company from North Yorkshire or perhaps Devon to quote for my repointing lol

Actually, I saw it was Sussex and I remembered I had a verbal quote from another company, Packham Construction, in the same area. I didn't name the company before as I didn't take them up on it. (I didn't get the property at auction.)

Just had the repointing done and very happy Nothing to complain about and a 10 year guarantee.
