Spurring off a light switch

The previous owners of my house built an extension approximately three years ago. I've just tried to replace a one gang dimmer switch and found the following:

- three twin and earth cables connect into the switch;
- the three neutral cables are connected together by what looks like a terminal connector block; and
- the switch plate is metal but the earth cables are only attached to the back box.

It appears that they've spurred another light and switch in a connecting corridor off the light switch in the extension.

Is this cause for concern? Any advice is appreciated.

Well there should at the very least be a link from the box to the switch plate. Some people will take the cables to the switch plate and then link to the back box, either is fine.

Everything else you describe is perfectly fine, it's just a different (and more commonly used now) method of wiring switches, it makes it easier to add extra points - as your houses previous owners have done
