I flooded my bathroom and it leaked through to my living room ceiling.

I went over some of the water marks with the zinsser bin which was last used in November 2023. (I gave it a good stir)
However, it’s still showing through. At first, you could see where I have painted on the water lines with it and then painted over the top with dulux trade vinyl matte. Now the yellow/brown stains are coming through a second coat of paint .
I already paid a decorator to do this room in December 2023, I don’t want to pay for it to be done again.
(The leak happened a few months ago)

Am I using the wrong product?

Nothing better than BIN on water stains.
Give it a coat. Let it dry for a couple of hours then emulsion over and all will be good.
I wonder what went wrong?

BIN will separate and solids will sink to bottom of the can so make sure it's well mixed. Can be hard to mix by hand as the solids clump. When mixed use a mini foam roller and coat area. Try two coats with 2 hours between each coat to be sure its dry. Leave for a further 2 hours to dry then try again with emulsion.

Only thing I can think of is the surface is still wet as that will cause BIN to fail.

Thank you. When opened the BIN, it was a watery caramel colour. I didn’t remember it looking like that, so gave it a stir and noticed it was thick at the bottom of the tin. I’ll make sure it’s thoroughly stirred when I try again.

I did wonder if it was because I was using vinyl Matt that it wasn’t covering it? Is there any difference between that and emulsion?

BIN will be watery and caramel colour.
Will be thick at the bottom. Mix it in well..

I used to put a pound shop wooden spoon in a drill to mix paints. Used to buy a 6 pack for £1

It can take a few coats of emulsion to hide the BIN. But yeah, apply some more BIN first.
