Ok so been in our new house about a year and the exterior windows and doors need restained and as we seem to have a decent weeks weather I am going to get started.

Now I have had a good look at all the frames and although some areas are flaking badly the wood seems sound, no bits breaking off or anything. Do I just scrape off the flaking stain, sand down smooth, clean and restain? I have noticed on the door some of the knots have some bubbling sap, I take it I should use some kind of knotting paint on these?

Soem questions, would a heat gud be benificial or not needed to remove the old stain? How far should I take the wood back? What stain and brushes would you reccomend?

Thanks in advance.
