Staining pine white - to knot or not to knot?

Hi,

I'm looking to stain a new staircase usings Manns Pine Woodstain.

As part of the prep work would I need to treat the knots with knotting solution as if I were painting?

I'm concerned the knotting solution would be visable even after a few coats of stain. Also the stain may not take so well to areas that have been treated.
