Stringer on one side of my stairs is bouncing against the masonry wall. A few mm of movement when walking on the stairs. Cannot access underneath of stair construction due to false ceiling. Can stringer be screwed to masonry wall to support and stop movement. Risers and treads seem secure it is just the stringer seeing movement where it meets the wall.

Whilst it is normally done from below, it is possible to drill through the stringer and into to the masonry. Fixing can be achieved with long large diameter screws (e.g. 6.0 x 120.or 6.0 x 150mm) into 7mm brown plugs and the screw heads, if sunk.under can be plugged or filled. Just understand that there may be other issues and this may not fix them (so it's a case of suck it and see)

How much "access" do you have under the stair?

Is it a "Standard" under stair cupboard with a plasterboard ceiling ?

As "JobAndKnock" above, the screwing of the stringer will assist greatly, another thing which would probably assist is to fix a [say] 75.mm X 50.mm batten HARD up to the plasterboard and use small "Rawlbolts" to fix this batten, in effect anything to restrain the stringer, if you do not it will get worse.

Yes it is a standard understair cupboard with a plasterboard ceiling.
Is there likely to be a gap between the stringer and the wall needing to be packed? Will try some screws and plugs starting and the bottom of the stringer where movement is greatest and go from there. Something like the Goldscrew PZ 6 x 120?

There may well be a gap. It depends on whether or not the plastering was done before or after the stairs went in and how tight the stringers were placed to the wall. The place you'd normally look for this is on the underside, because often things in cupboards aren't finished all that well...

As J&K (I respect his comments) hasn't mentioned the following I will.

You say the string closest to the wall is moving when the flight is walked on - does the other string move in the same direction and by the same amount? If it doesn't then you are likely to have a serious issue.
You do need to access the underside of the stairs and check :-
a) the movement of the string
b) Does the string move independent of the treads and risers
c) are the wedges under the treads tight and glued

If the strings are moving together then you ought to pack the gap between string and wall before using screws to stop the movement.
