I'm looking to change the staircase in my house. The staircase in question is from the first to top floor in a three storey house. It's currently a normal staircase spanning the width of the house, I'd like to double the staircase back on itself to improve the layout. I'll be getting a caprenter in to do this, but I'd like to know how much head height is required. Is there any generally accepted height on a winding stair?

thanks

Minimum head height is 2.00m from tread line.

Thanks, does that mean 2m from the whole of each step? how does that work for a winding staircase?

draw a line from the front of each tread to the front of the next one. it must be 2m in a vertical direction.
same applies to a winding stair :)
