We have a baxi bermuda back boiler and fire which is only a year old. The surround is wood and one of those solid plastic sheets between surround and gas fire front. My wife would like a new stone fireplace. Am I correct in assuming this to be a fairly major job as the fire and boiler would need to come further out by approx 2" to overlap the stone that would replace the plastic sheet to tuck in behind the fire trim? Am I also correct in assuming that a new flue would be required as it would no longer stretch to the boiler?
What is the best order of work - fit hearth and fireplace first then reposition the boiler, pipework, flue and gas fire or vice-versa?
Also, where could I get the correct type of mastic from for fitting a stone fireplace?
On this occasion she may get no for an answer!
Any help greatly appreciated
