Stones in plastering sand

I've done some rendering & need to do the top finishing coat (it was patching large holes. However in the sand from B&Q there are small stones! Not many... Maybe 10-12 in a half bucket mix, but it is annoying...

Ideas? Does sand come without the stones......???
