One of our tennants called me this morning saying that the bolier is working perfectly and is supply hot rads and hot water downstairs only.

When they turn on the upstairs basin or bath hot tap a tiny bit of water comes out then the pipe makes a knocking noise and the water stops.

The boiler is a Vaillant Ecotec 831 combi.

Does anyone have an idea?

Knowing what a tight fisted landlord you are when it comes to keeping their house warm , it is possible that the pipes going upstairs have frozen,

Not me with the frozen shower waste.
Our propertys are more higher end and I select tennants very carefully.
I do not rent a place if I would not be happy to live there myself.

I suppose thats why I fitted 1k boilers to our places and not £600 units.

I edited the shower waste out - sadly not in time

The only other thing that comes to mind is that when the pipework was installed, they may have put an isolator valve somewhere which has somehow managed to close, all by itself. Weird, but theoretically possible. Or, possibly, it has accidently been closed (somewhere in a cupboard maybe  )

Yes cold water is fine - just no hot water upstairs it just drips out.
I think there is a blockage in the pipe.
