This time of year you'd be think of spring arriving, not more snow maybe.

I've searched the net to find whether growing Strawberries in planters is best with John Innes No. 2 or 3 mixed with manure or even using the contents of a growbag for tomatoes.

Last year I used a mult-purpose type of soil which dried out too easily and having to water morning and evening and the crop was not as good as the ground grown ones.

Any tips

Thanks

Multi purpose usually has a lot of peat in it and doesn't hold water very well, neither does it have enough nutrients for strawberrries. John Innes 2 with a (well rotted) manure is ideal. You should also feed with liquid Tomato feed every two weeks.

Strawberry plants only fruit well for three or four years then need replacing but you should get runners off your current plants that you can bring on for future years.

Hope you get a good crop.
