Dear fellow DIY-ers,
I bought an old-ish house (1953) here in Switzerland, which needs a lot of work. In preparation for whats to come, I am currently stripping the walls of their various coverings. In some cases, it appears to be regular woodchip, so no problems/queries there (at the mo) however in a number of rooms (and stairs), the previous owner appears to have applied come kind of thick paint, with something added to it, which I can only say, resembles thick/horse hair. Scrapping the stuff off, is quite time consuming, but I have now completed the task however the surface of the wall is now white and powdery ... if you run your hand over it, your hand ends up white.
My question is ... what now? How to prepare the wall for either papering, render type finish or even just plain painting?
Any thoughts / ideas?
Just as an after thought, what should I do with walls, where I have removed the woodchip?
Chris
