Sub base for 4m x 2m block paving?

This may be a silly question but I'm building a porch, and in front of the porch Im laying down a 4m x 2m block paving in to my existing lawn using some reclaimed bricks I have. As the paving will only be used to walk over in to the porch (no heavy weight will go over the paving) do i still need to lay down a sub base under the sharp sand I'll be using to lay the bricks? Thanks

If broken up and compacted the bricks should be a suitable sub base.
