want to operate 3 pendants,all of which will come at the same time, from different ends of room (two way switching no prob with that)want to operate one of these lights independantly from another switch but also retain the switching on/off of all 3 lights from other swiches. what switch setup to use?

You can control one light to come on (or off) when the others are off (or on) or have the one light follow the others. You can make your one light do the opposite of the others. Any of these options (but only one at a time) can be achieved with an extra two way switch.

Why not have two two way circuits?

Any other type of combination will either require relays or low voltage control.
