I need to remove a section of plasterboard in a kitchen above a boiler so that a plumber can fit a Fernox filter, as the pipes are running down behind the boiler. There is no room to fit the filter underneath as the boiles is hung low on the top of a worktop. Is there any safe or good way to remove this board without hit the pipes or is it just a case of being extra careful ?

You could try a retractable stanley knife set the blade for about 3/4 the board thickness, then break out the plaster board by hand. Oh yes and extra careful is a good idea too! I had to have the top of my thumb sewn back after an unguarded moment with a stanley knife :D

You should end up with a fairly clean cut, you can trim after you can see the pipes clearly.
