We have 5 taps which operate on an up/on and down/off manner. Four of the taps are more than 20 years old and work easily and smoothly. The 5th, shown in the image attached, is just over a year old is now offering a fairly strong resistance turning on or off. Can someone please throw some light on why this is happening and if it can be rectified? Thank you.

Quite often it can be the plastic inside or the grease has dried out. Will likely need a new cartridge, but how long is the warranty?
Thanks for the quick reply. I’ve no idea how long the warranty is but it’s coming up for 2 years since the sink and tap were installed as part of a shower room upgrade. Can I do anything about the grease, plastic or cartridge or is that a plumber only job

No it can be diy depending on your abilities. At the back of the tap is a cover cap, remove this, and you’ll usually need a short Allen key to remove the grub screw, this then allows the head to be separated from the body. Then remove the cartridge (after isolating the water obviously) and replace with a new one. If you know the make and model you shouldn’t be able to find a spare, if not you may get away with a generic type.
