tape to seal a crack in plaster?

hi

a crack appeared in the lounge ceiling plaster after i had a whirlpool bath fitted in the room above it. turns out the lounge ceiling has distemper between it and the plaster so the plaster is coming away.

as a temp solution id like to tape up the crack to stop it getting bigger/hold things in place. is there a specific sort of tape i could put on for this purpose?
