Property renovation underway and includes insulation of internal walls using Xtratherm within batten framework with foil-backed plasterboard over.

Plastering will commence soon (to be done by others). I know that taping joints is considered best practice but need to understand why, in case my plasterers try to get out of doing this. Can someone please enlighten me on the reasons why joints are taped.

Many thanks

Joints are taped because there will always be material movement, this can be due to changing warm and cold conditions and materials moving at different ratios. Also when walls and ceilings are under mechanical stress, foot trafffic and the general usage, people leaning on them things propped up etc...
If tapes are not used where joints are in plasterboards, they will in time simply crack/split at these joints.
