Telephone not ringing

Hi a while back one of my phones stopped ringing and also had no dialtone. I checked the master socket just incase there might be a problem and the wires did seem a bit loose/chewed but i didnt bother fixing it as it was in a room that im barely in. However since the last few days my other telephone has stopped ringing (still has dialtone) and I want to make sure everything is correct in the master socket before investigating with BT. Is it possible to get a guide/diagram of how the wiring should be in the master socket. Pictures would be helpful too. Thanks

Standard connections from the NTE to extension jacks are pretty straightforward:

2 - Blue/white
3 - Orange/white
4 - White/orange
5 - White/blue

In fact no. 4 doesn't even need to be connected for basic home wiring, although it often is for neatness.
