I have been burning wood in my open fire for the last year, but it has started to leak smoke in the front bedroom and stains have appeared on the upstairs wall on the chimney side. The house is over 100 years old and I have been told that it probably doesn't have a flue lining. I have been told that thermocrete is an efficient way to solve the problem. Could you please comment if you have used thermocrete and what your opinion is? Or, if anyone else has an alternative, that would also be helpful.

You can also have a stainless steel liner.
The method you mentioned does last longer if done properly.
