Hi all,
I have a tiled (Minton) hallway and where it meets the parquet floor of the kitchen a few tiles started to "sag". Took them up to discover NOTHING underneath ! (see pictures).

Now confused about what to fill the void with / how to refit the tiles.
All and any advice much appreciated.

Best wishes
Monty

You could just fill it with concrete a few mil short of the bottom of the tiles and re-tile on that.

However, I'm more interested in what has caused this. Can you take a photo down the hole looking left and right? I'm thinking a drainage leak, rat problem or just settlement of the soil but it is a bit unusual and I'd want to be sure that the rest isn't going to collapse...

As the above post.

Pics of the entryway to the right, and outside pics of the walls around the "porch"/hallway area would help.

You could inspect the external walls at ground level looking for rodent entrance holes or damaged air bricks. Another possibility is a broken drainage pipe somewhere in the vicinity. Is there a hall WC nearby, or a gulley on the outside?

Thing is with rodents there would be a definite smell and signs of droppings. A broken sewer or waste would also smell, and perhaps show damp.

If the exterior brickwork beds are visible then look for any dipping or sagging that might indicate a little subsidence.
