Tiling against the skirting - filling the gap?

Hi,

Quick question.... how much gap do i leave between the edge tile and the skirting board? I've left about 4-5mm with the first few I've cut but now I've had a thought that maybe I don't grout again the wall edge....

I don't want to remove and re-fit the skirting, I could put some small beading along the edge I guess....? Or shall I just grout or silicone?

Its a hallway and kitchen by the way....

Cheers

That's a bit cheeky.
Ok I'll answer your question ..... Because I know what I'm talking about and you don't! Does that answer your question? Jeez, you try and help someone and they start quizzing you.
If you can't be arsed searching for an answer, don't expect someone on here to give you a detailed reason of why to do something.
You asked what to do and I told you. How dare you question me after I've given up my time to help you out. I've got better things to do with my time than to explain myself to you. I'll help anyone, anytime, but don't take the mickey. If you don't want my advice, then don't take it...... but don't ask me to explain it. Just take it as written or disregard it.
Good luck.

Calm down....!

Im not doubting you, just curious. "Trust me, don't" is a good answer I guess but doesn't really have much backing it up (considering this is the Internet and people can say whatever they want when they want). For all I know you could just be winding me up....

Im sure you have tiled many more floors than I ever will but....

1. Does it dis-colour
2. Peel off
3. Look bad
4. Hard to apply
5. Etc

You asked a question. I gave you an answer. But then you decided to ignore my advice. That's rude. Why even ask if you're going to do what you want anyway? I can't abide timewasters.
If you want to silicone that gap, go right ahead. I'm not going to go into detail about why you shouldn't use silicone, I haven't the time and I've given you all the help you need - I've just nipped home for a spot of lunch and I'm now going back to the floor tiling job I'm working on.
Good luck.

I wouldnt say it was rude, I think it was perfectly legit to ask why.

You reply implies that you dont know why, just do as I say.

Im only commenting as an outsider, so please dont bite me.

Sorry to give the impression that I don't know what I'm doing. That's subjective anyway.
OK to answer said questions:

1. Does it dis-colour - it can but it couldn't be too bad in a kitchen.

2. Peel off - depends how well it's been applied and how much grief you give it when cleaning the floor.

3. Look bad - If you spent the time necessary to make a perfect seal then it wouldn't look too bad (for a few months).

4. Hard to apply - now you're getting warm. To get a perfect seal around the edges you really need to mask the area off with tape. Why bother with all that messing about when all you need to do is apply grout to said joint and it'll look far superior.

5. Etc

Do yourself a favour and just use the grout - there's no need to spend the extra time, effort and expense in siliconing the edges. Let alone the fact that most folk make a pig's ear of siliconing anyway!
Please yourself if you think I don't know what I'm talking about. I'll help anyone anytime, but this guy chose to disregard my advice, so why would I bother explaining myself to him?
