tiling around a bath

When tilling around a bath is there a need to put a spacer between the bath and the first tile or jus place the tile to the bath. Thanks for any help.

Fit bath, silicone seal, fill bath with water. tile down or up from bath using spacer, finally grout then silicone seal again around bath.
