Tiling bath boxing

I have made a box for my bath to sit in out of ply wood. Will i be able to tile straingt onto this or will i need to use a membrane of some kind too?

what type/thickness of ply?
what type/size/ thickness of tiles?

The ply i used is 10mm thick and the tiles are normal ceramic tiles with glossy front.

just use 6mm backerboards screw on to frame work, use a bagged addy,
remember to leave or fit an access panel of sorts so if you need access to any pipe work etc..

What exactly are backerboards and where can i get them. Will the likes of B&Q sell them? Its all new to me.
