tiling bathroom floor

Which is best / easier for floor tiling in a bathroom - to tile round bathroom fittings or to tile first and then install the fittings (w/c and washbasin)

If you can I would tile the area first, also bear in mind that the floor level will be slightly higher so make sure the toilet pan connection can line up plus the basin/bath taps etc.
