Hi

Have two hydrangea. One is more dead than the other. Should I still dead head, even at this late stage?

Thanks

Go for it.
Leave old wood though as that's will sprout flowers.
Some years ago my wife cut them right back and we didn't get any flowers

Yep you are actually suppose to leave them on over winter as the mop protects the plant from frost. I am about to cut mine off this week end. As said it flowers on last years new growth. Mine was getting leggy and the wrong size for its position so I did cut it back a couple of rears ago and just put up with no flowers for one summer but its a better plant now for it

Just cut off the old flowers down to the next bud.
It will shoot up this year - looks like you planted them last year or the year before

Sorry to be thick but can you highlight where exactly to cut on these images. (First one is slightly less dead flower)

Also is it just the main stem or the branches?

Thanks again.
