I saw an advert for a Vodafone V-Auto tracker. It seems as if it does loads it is described as "A tracker that helps you find your car, keep record of your car journeys and gives you a driver safety score."

It seems that with a car it simply plugs into some socket already fitted to the car, but I was wondering if it is possible to fit it to a caravan. Does it need anything more than a 12-volt supply. How easy would it be to make up a connection? The idea of having a record of how far my caravan has travelled appeals and if it stolen, I want it back.

Needs 12V from car bus.
Might also collect some data from car bus system.
eBay sell female OBD bus sockets to make it easier to wire 12V to. You then plug in your male OBD from Vodafone

Also have a look at these (which will need a sim card) but which will be easier to wire to your caravan 12v battery.

Finally note that GPS needs a good signal from satellites, so closer to roof, and less metal, wood or water around it will improve the GPS signal that it receives.
