Is there available somewhere some bit of hardware that would give a more finished appearance to an outlet installed in a carpeted vertical face of a stepdown from one room area to another? The outlet itself right now has one of those brass plates that are often used with hard floors where you lift up a gate-like piece to obtain access to the actual outlet. However, carpet was laid over that and a hole was cut in the carpet to provide access. Surely there must be a more finished way to treat this. Any suggestions? JimA

I suppose as this is a step there is a high probability of this getting kicked or knocked. This would rule out having something plastic over the top of it. I presume that you're not happy with the way it looks as the carpet has been cut round the plate. Is it not possible to remove the fascia plate from underneath and re-fit it over the the carpet? At least that would hide the cut edges.

Thanks - I'll explore that idea. Actually the locations are not in the traffic pattern, so plastic might work in the present room configuration if I could find something suitable. JimA
