Hi

Triton T80 Easi-fit+ Thermostatic 10.5kW

My shower has gone from perfect to lukewarm overnight.

Both heating elements showing resistance, 10.4 Ohms and 12 Ohms

There’s some drop in flow between cold and hot but not huge. I honestly couldn’t tell you if less difference than when it was working or not.

Is it possible it’s the thermostatic control valve? Part No S82100353

It’s barely out of warranty but if needs must I’ll get a new one as it’s my only shower and lukewarm is torture at this time of year.

If I replace it I can’t help thinking I’d rather have Mira but it needs to be a multi fit as water and power both rear/right hand entry and no room to move shower sideways for a left fit. Would prefer thermostatic.

I’d rather repair this if possible but would Mira be a better replacement if I can shoehorn one in or stick with another Triton?

Thanks in advance

Don't think thats truly a thermostatic shower, it can compensate for fairly small changes in the pressure if someone opens a tap somewhere else. also its probably 10.5kW at 240V but the UK now has 230V? so a 9.6kW shower.
My mains temp just now is 7C so a 9.6kW shower will give a flow rate of 9.6*860/60/(40-7), 4.17LPM @ 40C. Suggest to ensure no one using water anywhere else and set the temperature control to give a flowrate of 4.0LPM, then measure or feel the shower temperature. If only one element "working" then the shower temp will only be lukewarm at 24C, if so reduce the flowrate to 2.0LPM to get 40C. Both elements seem OK (resistance) so could be one of the contacts, if shower completely cold then almost 100% sure to be the TCO (thermal cut out), there is only one installed on my (Irish) T80 but maybe two on yours, the installation guide will show.

I’ve just quoted what the product is sold as so everyone here knows the exact shower I have but thanks.

I always use the shower with no other water being drawn but unlike my Triton Topaz T100 before this I can easily flush the loo and this one would carry on running at a stable temperature.

As I stated, there is minimal flow difference between cold and hot. I do have a flow cup, I’ll check it tomorrow.

It’s lukewarm and sometimes rises a little warmer for a few seconds but never to shower temperature. Makes no difference whether I’m on normal or eco power settings.

Cold power setting is certainly stone cold ad is fully power with temp turned to cold.

Max flow, turned to fully cold should be ~ 8LPM and min flow, turned to fully hot, ~ 2.0 LPM or slightly less.

I’ve flow tested just now with shower head off. Couldn’t find my flow cup so timed into a bucket.

Power level 2

Min temperature 8 l/min
Max temperature 7 l/min

Sounds like this points back to the flow control valve I pasted in my original post. I’ve turned it stop to stop several times but nothing improves, I guess it’s knackered.

Before doing anything more, ensure power off at pull cord, remove the cover, you will be able to see where the start/stop "button" is inside, with care, restore power with the pull cord and start the shower, turn the stabiliser valve with your fingers fully hot then fully cold to see if it works, if so reposition the cover as shown in attachment.

They are rubbish showers. From my experience of having one anyway...

I’ll give you that. Hence would rather replace with Mira if I had to. But just no right hand space to allow for a left entry shower which most Mira’s are (this is plumbed and wired to the right).

Fingers crossed I sort this one anyway

I’d done that and tested the heater elements as per original post - thanks anyway.

I’ve ordered the new valve, fingers crossed that resolves it.

I know of one (Dublin) installer who installs up to 1000 showers per year who has a very poor opinion of Mira, especially the pumped ones, a common problem he said is that a plastic elbow keeps cracking/leaking despite numerous fixes by Mira. I had a Mira Sport for 15 years, no problems, replaced it ~ 5 years ago with a Triton T80 Easi-fit (which it is), no problems so far.

Changed the thermostatic control valve today.

The moment I turned the shower on the reduced flow was evident.

It’s working perfectly.

Not a difficult job. These showers are quite modular and it’s all push fit internals.
