An intriguing consequence of this conflict may be a rise in people buying electric vehicles as the price of oil carries on rising. Iran has had plenty of time to prepare for this as Europe holds off on using strategic reserves...for now. How long would it take for us to consider dipping in to that stockpile?

The rise in oil prices is very temporary, I imagine the US are planning to get control of the strait soon.

I imagine they are - but Trump isn't known for his attention span and this won't be a Venezuela campaign. Iran seems to be well prepared to dig in and tough this one out.

I think they will struggle to keep the Straits open, these drones are sneaky things and Iran is full of sneaky nutters - they only need an occasional success

It needs troops on the ground and trump won't be doing that

I think we're in a mess

It's literally a textbook example at Dartmouth.

Floating simple dumb sea mines or firing the occasional cheap drone into shipping there will deny it to commercial traffic which is all Iran has to do to make the rest of the world hurt.

It's not something that has an easy simple and definitely not cheap, thing to 'fix'.

In one 24-hour period trump declared the conflict “very complete, pretty much” but “we haven’t won enough” - making it up as he goes along, by the looks of things.
The messaging coming from The White House on this (and let's be honest other stuff) is very mixed and inconsistent. The tv prog Veep springs to mind.

I don't think this is playing out how they thought it would whatsoever.

As for the Strait, they (the States) will need to get control of it soon, otherwise it makes them look weak.

Good to know the wind is blowing so we need less gas.

Perhaps we should speed up our build and infrastructure programs.

None of this wind is attacked by drones or mines.
