TRV's that are not reversible will bang like fook if fitted to return , as system head increases so the bang gets louder. :p

Yea steel but they still get hot don't they?

Yea still get hot although will close prematurely , manually turning them down will go with a 'thump'....

We have a site where primary flow and returns to each flat have been reversed , those Honeywell two port zone valves go off with a 'thump' each time they close , these valves are failing prematurely due to the syncrone motor opening under duress , each time a valve needs replacing (60 odd flats) I flip em around. ;)

Paul, if it's not the TRV fitted contraflow, that madrab suggested, or the inline closed service valve that I suggested, it could otherwise be a blockage in the pipe / rad.

When you installed the new rad, did you use a new TRV or reuse an old one? If so (or just because) take the TRV head off and work the pin a few times. It way be sticking and need freeing up.

Run a magnet along the flow pipe to the rad, just to check if it is an iron oxide build up / clog in the pipe.
