Please can someone help, I have made the stupid mistake and removed the switch in the upstairs landing and not made any notes where the wires go.
The wiring used is 2core+earth, there are 3 cables from the switch :-
Grey cable (Red,black and earth)
White cable (Red,black and earth)
White cable (Red,black and earth)

I have put meter across and grey cable has live wire(red).
I am puzzled on how all of these wires where connected on one single switch, L1 L2 COM.

For your information :-

Upstairs landing has a one switch light switch that controls the landing light and hall light.

Downstairs hallway has two switches. One to control the hall light and one that controls the upstairs landing light.

Please can someone help ?

3 cables seems quite a few for a single switch. i can see a couple of possibilities for how it could be done though.

was there any terminal block in the backbox before or don't you remember?

can you do us a diagram of the wiring downstairs?

thank you for your reply.

There was no terminal block as far as I can remember.
Regarding diagram I will have to come back to you as I will have to switch off the power.

I have checked the downstairs switch and the switch is wired as :-
the TOP of the switch(left to right) L1 L2 L3
L1 = RED WIRE(NO POWER)
L2 = BLACK WIRE(POWER LIVE SWITCH)
L3 = NO WIRE(NOT CONNECTED)

the BOTTOM of the switch(left to right) L3 L2 L1
L3 = RED WIRE(NO POWER)
L2 = BLACK WIRE(NO POWER)
L1 = RED WIRE(POWER LIVE PERMANENT)

Upstair switch is a single two way switch, can I replace it with two way switch?
