The diverter valve on the bath taps/shower mixer when pulled up vertically (to shower mode) allows quite a bit of water to still drip out of the tap spout. So we need to replace the O rings by removing the valve.

We have got an 11mm open ended spanner around the two straight edges of the valve, but we can't put enough pressure on the spanner to turn it. Not without breaking the spaner that is. Is there a better tool more suited to doing this? If not could we try to release it with WD40 or maybe bathroom descaler if the valve has limed up internally?

By the way, using a bigger adjustable spanner set to 11mm does not fit as the jaws are too deep.

yes...de-scaler ..let it do its stuff.... then some penetrating oil - wd40 will do, but let it work for some time 20 mins or so
all that assuming ur trying to undo a part that does undo !!

Then...
Pour a big saucepanful of boiling water over it so it all gets hot, use a decent spanner (which you won't break on a bit of brass) and hit the spanner with a hammer
