UNDERFLOOR HEATING PROBLEM

My 3 yr old Gloworm Condensing Boiler was serviced last month (he set it at 1.4 and its on 1.3 now) and was working fine, however the underfloor heating won't come on downstairs and its pretty cold at the moment.

The hot water is fine and the upstairs underfloor heating is working perfectly but not the heating downstairs. If I turn downstairs on manually the wall thermostats light up and it appears to be working but then after 3 to 4 minutes they turn off again, as happens on auto.

I have noticed noisy pipes and clicks from the floor, but just thought that was the wooden flooring expanding.

Is this a boiler problem or something else? I am not in a service contract at the moment. Any advice would be much appreciated.

It would be very difficult to suggest whats wrong without seeing how its connected. I would expect it to be something to do with the controls and nothing to do with the boiler. Are you quite sure you have set it correctly?

Either call someone who understands underfloor or call the person who did the boiler service although he may know nothing about underfloor!

Thanks for your reply Agile. Yes I have set it properly and also had a feeling that it could be one of the many controls not the boiler itself that is faulty. Unfortunately the person who fitted the system is away on holiday for two weeks.

As well as checking the ufh controls, check if it's a hydraulic problem.

Somewhere off to the side above floor level is a boxed in area which contains a pump blend valve manifold and bleed valve for the downstairs underfloor heating. It may be a simple matter of bleeding that sub system, you should get he guy who did the boiler back if it occured concurently.

There may be an auto air vent which someone might have closed the dust cap of. Certainly would do no harm to bleed the pump.
