I am putting solid pine floorboards down in my lounge, fixed onto battens. The existing floor is concrete with some bright blue 70's style stick on tiles.

The floor is really cold so I am thinking about putting some insulation down.

1. What sort of insulation should I put down? there are so many different types ranging from foil backed polystyrene to sheeting, I've no idea which to go for.

2. What about venitlation of the floor? There is no airbrick at the moment (the walls are very thick (about half a metre) and solid stone). Do I need to put some sort of air brick in and if so how does this work with the insulation.?

Any advice welcome.
