Understairs toilet questions

I dont know the layout of the property, if you can connect to a section of existing sewer externally, that might be easier and then provide a chamber at that point for future access needs.

Hugh, I think I can connect to the foul water manhole. It's just work! The distance and route is not difficult.

Hugh you were right about the drain. The rain water drain goes back to the same manhole as the upstairs toilet, the same manhole that Thames water said is for foul water.

Thames water identified a second manhole by the front garden which is for rainwater. When I have time I will check if ANY of the gutters lead back to the rainwater drain.

I've looked at the foulwater manhole and it's a serious hole. I am not confident to connect to it myself. But I could connect to the rear soilstack if the fall doesn't take me too low (might get away with it). It's a cast iron soil stack and it's in our kitchen because the extension was built without relocating the soil stack or manhole. I'd like to keep the cast iron soil stack as it's a "feature" in the kitchen, otherwise would need to box it in. So to connect to cast iron do I need to cut out a section and put in a length of plastic and T into that? That's how we used to do it when I worked as a plumber but it was decades ago and I don't recall much more.

You can cut a section out but my fear with doing that is the weight of the cast above. You cannot rely on the lugs and fixings to take the weight of the stack above with 100% certainty. Go carefully if you take this route. I'd also look at using a 'Timesaver' coupling on the cast, which may provide structural strength once fitted although may not be so easy on the eye. (Mind you, neither would the plastic....!)

Hugh, your tip that the supposed rain drain is in fact connected to the sewer, as you know turned out correct. I now can fit the toilet without a macerator, and with a very simple and short route for the waste.

BIG THANKS !!!

PS Local plumbers merchant had a 46cm projection pan as well! Now tons of leg room !!
