Unexpected results of anti-fat drugs

Correlation is not causation.
Ciggy ban was a huge driver to pubs' demise, publicans have told me. I go in them so rarely that I'm shocked to find them almost empty, so ask.

I thought the thread was going to be about the bad side effects on health, caused by the drug..

Our dreadful diets, pollution and piles of potions are causing all sorts of problems we never had before. The aim seems to be to live for ever, but as a lump of meat that needs to be looked after.

The problem with the new generation of fatty drugs, is what do the fatties do, when they hit target weight and stop taking them? If you don't change the mindset, you end up back where you were.

How many pub goers these days only go because of the smoking ban? The main cause of pub closures is price, and that's already been mentioned. Price alcohol at £1 a unit, or somewhere around there, both in pubs and shops. Another reason is the demographics of people local to pubs.

The average price of a pint is a fiver these days, i read in yesterday's Times'.
That's a big reason to brew your own, let alone pop down the offie.

There are people who take pills for blood pressure. If they stopped it would go wrong again. So they don't stop.

I wonder how many on hypertension meds can come off them due to improving their lifestyle. Maybe 20%? Whereas 95% of obese people can avoid being Obese through a better lifestyle.

funny how it all leads to eating less and exercising more.

It is that simple, but it is not that easy.

I wasn't so much thinking of 'Spoons... more like the thousands of smaller establishments ran by a licensee.

And how much of their profits justifies each additional early death?

Pubs are great for a coffee and a snack - which for me +1 wasn't the case when they were full of smoke.

Did you ever see the big diet tests done in Minnesota? 50's I think.
There's a big wide bell curve showing base metabolic rates. Also how when some people eat more, they mostly put on muscle.
Upshot - some people have to do a load of exercise they detest, and can't eat food they enjoy, or food others would term "normal".
My BMR is around 1000-1200 kcal/day, which is well towards the low end. It is definitely undesirable, and plain unlucky.
