any ideas as to how i can get shut of the air in my up and over pumped shower supply without doing major works to the system as the pipework in the loft runs really flat to the joists so this maybe the problem area.

It sounds like air is being drawn in while the shower is in use.If so then its more likely designed wrong.I assume its an open vented cylinder? Possibly not enough head.A rough drawing would help answer your problem.
