Hello again,

been told before extending house and upgrading boiloer / hot water system to "pressurized" I should upgrade my existing pipework (into the house from the road) to 22mm poly pipe. Apologies if its a dumb question but I'm not clear what it will do for me. No tests have been done on pressure /flow of existing is it normal to upgrade this.

Can anybody out there explain what benefit that will give ?

Thanks

For starters I think you mean 25mm blue alcathene (spelling  ).

This should be the minimum diameter you need. A lot a properties now use the next size up, 32mm I think.

This will increase flow rate to your property but not necessarily the incoming pressure as this si set by your water co.

Pressurised cylinders ideally need at least 20 l/min and at least 3-3.5 bar pressure to get the best out of them and make their fitting worthwile.

Your plumber should have taken some basic pressure and flow readings first though

Thanks for the response very thorough. Assuming my plumber doesn't take any measurements is it likely that we will have less than the 3 bar required ? Can I check this with the local water authority to give me confidence ?

Any feedback appreciated.

You can, but it is always bes to test it a your property, so you know your individual results. Can't understand why your plumber hasn't tested it already before advising/quoting on your new installation
