I couldn't lock my double glazed door last night. We normally lift the handle up then turn the key but this time it just wouldn't. We noticed over the last few months that the handle was droopy and felt very loose and it has been tricky to lock.

I am a joiner by trade and would have a go at replacing the handle set myself and even the main upvc door lock if it were needed.

Where do I start because my door was maufactured and fitted by coldseal and they have gone bust. Does anybody know if the hardware parts are still available for me to fix it or do I have to go to the expense of buying a new door which I really don't want to do.

Please urgent help needed!!!! :( :( :(

Coldseal mechs are extremely hard to get hold of - and becoming very expensive. As these use a one-piece frame strike system, using an alternate mechanism will involve replacing the entire strike, and this may leave the frame in a bit of a mess.

Does the door lock when open ?. If so, it may just be the frame strikes that are not alligned. If not, then it's likely to be the mechanism.

Best bet is to call on the services of a local locksmith or UPVC repair specialist who will have access to a wider range of suppliers. They should also be able to provide a temp. locking solution if parts need to be ordered.

I just tried locking it with the door open as you suggest and it won't even lock that way. To be honest I think it could be the mechanism too.

The mechanism has 4 hooks that (used to) shoot out the side of the door and 4 little sliders that moved up and down with also a square bolt in the centre if that gives anybody any ideas?

Looks like its another nights sleep with one eye open and a chair behind the door!

Check this site out :D

I have bought hardware bits and peices off them for my upvc windows and doors in the past. I have done a bit of searching on their online store and copied the link direct to the product i think you will need.

Hows that for a quick response :?:

Thank you so much kill bill :D :D :D :D

I am checking that one of these matches mine, hopefully if it does I can buy one and fix the door myself during the week and actully sleep in my bed again.

Cheers. ;)

Take the mech out of the door and check the lockcase and hook direction against the pictures. Not the cheapest of sites, but it'll do the job nicely for you.
