If the handle is just spining right around then the locking mech has failed, take the handle off and have a look at the mech were the square spindle goes through, it should be a square hole were the spindle goes, if its round then theres your problem, there is an insert in there that has broken up as its very brittle so any forcing of the door will over time break it.
To open your door you'll probably need a locksmith, he'll need to find where the exsisting locks are on the mech and work his magic, other than that it 'MAY' be possible to take the door off from the hinge side but it depends a lot on which type of hinges they are
