Hi,

I was wondering whether someone may be able to assist please. I have attached a few pictures of the upvc window in question. So basically one side (the right side) is out of alignment and the window won't close anymore. What happened was that the window wasn't closing and opening properly (very stiff) for some time so I used an air blower to clean out both hinges and then put white lithum grease on the hinges. The window still won't open fully although the hinge is slightly smoother in movement but the right side has gone out of alignment and window won't close. I was just wondering what may be the cause and solution here. The hinges are parallel although some rust in there I think but not sure whats gone wrong.

Thanks.

Dean

Needs replacement hinges. Very common. They just wear over time. Readily available on evil bay

Right hinge has failed, very common when you don't clean and spray the guide with oil periodically, as you try and close the window instead of the little nylon plastic guide sliding freely allowing the hinge to fold up as it should you end up straining the rivets and bars, even snapping the plastic guide in half

New hinges required, dead cheap but there's a knack in fitting them in the correct position

Hi, thanks for the replies. I took out one of the hinges and I just had follow up question. I understand just two measurements are important for hinge replacements. Stack height and stay length. My hinge has a black plastic bit fixed in from the top end. Attached photo. When I measure the full length including the end of the black bit its 21.5cm and the metal bit alone the length is 20.5cm (8 inches). The stack height (the thickest part) is about 13mm on a vernier caliper and the width of hinge is 2cm (20mm). When taking measurements do we include length of metal hinge only? Does that plastic black part need to be brought seperately?

Just to check whether either of the following two are the correct ones for replacement...

or

Thanks.
