I've been dreading having to do it, but this past week, despite several earlier false starts over recent years - I finally made made the move from Mesnews to Thunderbird.
I've been using Mesnews for at a guess, over a decade, almost since it was first offered. Were it not for it's poor post filtering options, annoying cross-posts, inability to block the trolls, I have been more than happy using it - I really liked the way I could just click on a post and block any subsequent posts from the same author, trouble was, they would regularly name shift to post more of their dross.
This week, I installed Thunderbird, which seems to be the most popular newsreader. Which includes an extremely versatile, very configurable post filter system. I'm still still very much getting my head around it, just using it has a newsreader, though it can run email as well.
